Face filter ideas

Research existing filters:
When looking at existing filters I found this ones which creates a 3D deep sea environment on the users head. This filter isn't intended for communicating the issue but shows how it could be designed. This is a really fun filter that has been used by many due to the interactive nature of it and its use of animated 3D.

Ideas for a face filter:
The first idea have for the face filter is to use the deep sea texture exploration collage as a background of the filter, so that the user appears to be in the environment. Some of the plastic fishes are stuck to the face as the user moves around. The date and time and what it's called is displayed at the bottom so the user knows what it is for, promoting the event.

The second idea I have for a face filter is inspired by the zoo with the mirror. The design is a black frame with the words 'Worlds Deadliest Animal' across the top, then in the frame is the users camera. Although this is a strong idea in communicating an important part of the issue, it doesn't promote the event or provide enough information on the issue.

Developing the filter:
I chose to go with the first idea as it communicated the issue in a more interesting way, and promoted the event best.
To make the filter, the collage was adapted to fit the size of a phone screen and applied to the background of the user. I placed the plastic animals on the face attaching them to the face mesh so that they stayed on the face of the user.

This worked well, so the background stayed attached to the back so that they user could view the image when moving out of the frame.

I then applied another mesh to the face to smooth out the skin of the user, as many people will enjoy this effect, so more people will use it.

Different fonts for type:
For the text promoting the event at the bottom of the screen I tried out a few different fonts. I think the Ariel Bold font is most effective for this as the user can quickly and clearly read the text.

The final filter:
The final filter communicates the issue and promotes the event well, and would be a good way for people to find out about the livestream. I also managed to add audio of the sea life recordings, which further communicates the video and adds to the immersive experience for the user.
If I had more time I would have liked to animate the background and if possible have it stretch around the user 360 degrees, so that it appears as if you are in the environment. This would be more interactive for the user and communicate the VR concept of the outcome.
