Rationale

Stuck in Leeds is a poetry poster and book that sorts the visual noise of found stickers around the Leeds city centre into art. Through the formation of poetry using the text from the stickers, hidden messages are revealed about Leeds. Keeping the appearance of these selected words the same as their appearance on the stickers, creates personality within the poem, impacting the way the reader reads the poems. The use of New Times Roman references published poetry books, visually communicating the humours aspect of the design, which combines the professional appearance of New Times Roman and the type of the mismatching stickers. The title 'Stuck in Leeds' references the stickers and the book being based on an area of Leeds, as well as it being a map. New Times Roman is use for the title apart from Leeds, which uses the typeface designed to appear 3D, similar to a pole (where the stickers are usually stuck to), as well as being made from the lines of the roads the city centre. The design features the illustrations that appeared on the stickers to bring more of a visual aid to the book/poster. The poster is printed onto sticker paper with each poem cut out as well as the sticker design. This references basis of the design, being stickers, allowing the viewer to stick them wherever. William Burroughs inspired the poetry aspect of this design, as he makes poetry out of cut up text, creating strange poems with hidden messages.
