Further research & Initial ideas

Further research

Erik Brandt using shapes to layer over type. Adds another message through image as well as text.

Map poster by Toothprints - message to the viewer, personal take on a map.
Graffiti artist painted over tags on a wall, using helvetica to communicate what the tags appear to say.

William Burroughs cuts up text to create poems. Make less sense and suggest a hidden message.

Ideas:

1. Based off original idea of using shapes and type, the idea is to photograph stickers on poles in an area of leeds, taking the text and using it as words to form a poem. The text will reveal some sort of hidden message. Inspiration taken from William Burroughs who said 'When you cut into the present, the future leaks out'. Could predict the future of Leeds? He used the cut up technique, which can be traced back to the Dadaists.

2. Map of objects. Idea uses found objects, mapping place they were found. Experiment using own found objects:

Made into two tone screen print.
3. Inspiration from graffiti artist to photograph tags and photoshop them to have the them written out as they appear.

Crit:
- Sticker idea will work best.
- Could make a sticker book.
- Make a typeface using a grid in the area, such as roads.
- Could make a typeface based on type used on stickers. booklet could have a page per poem to match the sticker to the type.
